As ISIS closes in on the Kurdish-populated Kobane city of Syria in the north, protestors around Turkey gathered in many locations, alleging the country of providing support to the illegal organisation and taking no action towards their advance in the area. Among the locations were Diyarbakır, Şırnak, Mardin, Muğla, İzmir, Çanakkale, Batman, Eskişehir, and Adiyaman province in eastern and western Turkey, where protestors clashed with security forces in some places. Official buildings and the ruling AK Party’s offices were also attacked, and roads were blocked during some of the protests. Security forces fired into the air in some places to disperse the crowds.

8 people were killed during the protests in Diyarbakir province, where the army forces took control of the city-centre after a curfew was announced along with a number of other cities.

A group of pro-Kurdish DBP members’ attempt of holding a press conference in Sultangazi district of Istanbul was prevented by a nationalist group, and they had to take shelter in a party’s building, where they got trapped and only rescued from there by security forces some 7 hours later. The group of about 50 people were transported from the scene on police vehicles and minibuses.

A group of protestors burnt a monument of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in the town centre during a protest in Baskale district of Van province in eastern Turkey, while another group burnt a flag of Turkey during a protest in Dogubeyazit district of Agri province in eastern Turkey before blocking the Turkey-Iran international land route in the afternoon of Tuesday.

Hakan Buksur, a 25-year-old man protestor, was killed, and 3 of his fellow-protestors, Umut Bozkurt, Mehmet Salih Bingöl, and Diyar Barut, were wounded when a gun was fired during a protest in Varto distric of Mus province on Tuesday afternoon.

A curfew was announced in Mardin, Van, Siirt, Diyarbakir, and Batman provinces and some of their districts of eastern Turkey as clashes with security forces intensified by 5pm on Tuesday afternoon until further notice.

The protests erupted when people were invited to take to the streets in a written statement released after a Central Executive Board meeting of pro-Kurdish HDP on Monday afternoon.

The protests continued on Wednesday as well.
