5 automotive companies in top ten among Turkey’s largest 500 industrial enterprises

Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) has declared the results of its “Turkey’s Top 500 Industrial Enterprises 2017” survey made since 1968. Based on data thus obtained TUPRAS had the first place with 51.1 billion worth of sales from production. The company which had realized 6.7 percent of ISO 500 sales in 2016 increased this rate to 7.8 percent in 2017.

Ford Otomotiv maintained the second place with sales of TL 22.7 billion, while Toyota Otomotiv was third with sales of TL 17.8 billion, rising by three digits compared to 2016.

According to the survey which is important for revealing the current situation and problems of the real economy, sales (from production) of ISO 500 increased by 33.2 percent in 2017 from TL 490 billion to TL 653 billion, showing a high growth performance.

The weak growth seen in the production sales of the ISO 500 in the last three years left its place to real growth by 19% in 2017. The increase in exchange rates played an important role in sales growth figures as well as the increase in domestic and foreign demand. The growth thus realized was the highest of the last 13 years in the ISO 500.

The exports of ISO 500 also grew by 17 percent and reached 64.5 billion dollars. ISO 500 which displayed a performance over the export growth of Turkey, realized 41.1 percent of Turkey’s exports and 42.8 per cent of industrial exports in 2017. The share of the first 10 companies of the ISO 500 (mainly automotive and iron and steel companies) in total sales increased from 25 percent in 2016 to 26.7 percent in 2017.

Profit before tax and total loss of ISO 500 companies increased by 40.7 percent to TL 53.1 billion. The share of total debts in the ISO 500 Grand increased by 1 point to 62.9 percent in 2017 while the share of own resources decreased to 37.1 percent.
