Exporters Association: “Aegean region’s exports increased by 3 percent”

Exports from the Aegean region in the first five months of this year increased by 3 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 6 billion 888 million dollars. According to a written statement from the Aegean Exporters’ Association, exports from the Aegean region were at $ 6 billion 749 million in January-May 2016, up $ 6 billion 888 million in the same period of this year.

According to the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly, in the first 5 months of 2017, Turkey’s exports went to record as 59 billion 579 million dollars. The Aegean region realized 12 percent of Turkey’s exports.

İzmir alone realized 3 billion 424 million dollars portion of the region’s exports during January-May period. İzmir was the fourth largest exporting province in Turkey. Exports of Izmir in the same period 2016 was 3 billion 318 million dollars.

Among items exported from İzmir, the chemical and commodities sector took the first place with the amount of 595 million dollars. This sector was followed by the apparels sector with exports of $ 451 million. In this period, the export of the automotive industry was 222 million dollars.

Manisa was the largest exporting province after İzmir. The amount of exports from this city totaled upto 1 billion 392 million dollars in this period. Exports from Denizli increased by 7 percent in this period and rose to 1 billion 183 million dollars. Ready-to-wear and apparel sector in the city’s exports took the first place with 419 million dollars. In January-May this year, Aydin realized export of 205 million 645 thousand dollars. Balikesir exported 199 million 630 thousand dollars.
