Anadolu Gunesi, a local charity launches social responsibility project for children

Building a Future Now

Anadolu Gunesi, an Istanbul based local charity is launching a social responsibility project that will touch children in different parts of the country!

The ‘Libraries’ project is lead by young people who have benefited from personal and career development training they have received from the charity and are learning the notion of giving back to the less advantaged.

Anadolu Güneşi was founded in 2016, with the dream of supporting young people through a transitionary stage of their life, ages 18-24, through personal and career development training, mentoring, work experience, English conversation lessons, and a social responsibility project.

Most of the young people who take part in the 18 month programme are from different parts of Anatolia, young people who have worked hard to get to Istanbul to go to university. They are eager and diligent young people who benefit from widening their horizons and receiving support to develop networks in a city that is hard to survive in, even if you are born there.

The charity, now in its 3rd year, focuses on creating a very bespoke service for the young people, and offering an extended family atmosphere, where over time the young people who participate become future mentors and trainers to younger generations.

The ethos of ‘extended family’ is now going to be widened to Anatolia, with the first ‘Libraries’ project; young people from the class of 2018 have planned, designed and organised the project, and are now in the stage of seeking sponsors.

A school has been allocated in Afyon, the Suhut Ortaokulu, for the class of 2018, along with some mentors, to go and furnish a library for the school at the end of October 2019.

“We are really proud of our students, who have not only really developed personally through the training they have received, but have taken on the social responsibility project with all their might; we look forward to setting up libraries in different parts of Turkey over the years” said Ilke Erguvanli, the Chairwoman of Anadolu Gunesi.

“Our team is working really hard to make this a reality, and I am so excited to see how the children in Suhut will respond when we set up the Library and spend 2 days with them” added Ramazan, the student leader of the ‘Libraries’ project.

Anadolu Güneşi aims to add one library a year in each province in Turkey, it will take a few years, but what a great aim to work towards…
