Antalya, prominent holiday destination on Turkish Mediterranean hosts World Botanical EXPO (2016)

Antalya has been a leading Turkish holiday destination for millions of tourists for many years now. It can offer many alternative historical and touristic attractions in its environment, not to unparalleled forget sun & sea holiday opportunities in the region.

This magnificent city started hosting “The 2016 World Botanical EXPO”, one of the largest horticultural shows in the world after an opening ceremony attended by Tayyip Erdoğan and Ahmet Davutoğlu (Turkish PM) on April 22nd. The opening event which took place in Antalya’s congress center was also honored by a number of ministers from more than 10 countries and diplomats from 52 countries.

It is reported that the investment made for EXPO 2016 Antalya is expected to make a great contribution to the city’s tourism as well as the country’s economy and an approximate revenue of 1.8 billion Turkish Liras will enter the Antalya economy based on a forecast that more than 8 million estimated visitors for the event.

More than 50 countries are expected to participate in the expo, including China, Japan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Qatar, Uganda, Mexico, Zimbabwe, Burundi, the Netherlands, Germany, Hong Kong, Senegal and South Africa, to name but a few. Antalya won its bid in 2009 to host the botanic event of the prestigious Expo 2016. The expo, themed “Flowers and Children,” is meant to promote Turkish history and cultural diversity as well as Turkey’s rich agricultural and economic potential. To reflect this theme the slogan of “A green world for future generations” was chosen for the event which features national and international events such as concerts, congresses and symposiums, dance shows, musicals, plays, workshops, streets shows and special events for national days and the holy month of Ramadan.

Visitors will see 25,000 trees from 120 different species and a 650,000-square-meter green field as well as an 80-square-meter lake on the exhibition site. The expo also features “Turkey’s Eiffel Tower,” a lake, a biodiversity course, a children’s island, a glass bridge, an agriculture and biodiversity museum, a science and technology center for children as well as food courts, amphitheaters, watermills, and gardens from participating countries.
