Ballistic missile attack from Yemen on Riyadh Saudi Arabia’s capital

It is reported that a ballistic missile attack from Yemen on Riyadh Saudi Arabia’s capital has taken place. The attack, which took place late last night, is said to have been targeted at King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh. According to Saudi sources, the missile was deactivated in the air thanks to the missile defense system near Riyadh. The Ministry of Defense notified that the missile of limited scale had not caused casualties or material damage occurred. It was also noted that the air traffic at the airport continued in normal course. On the other hand, the explosion that broke out during the destruction of the missile was heard from many parts of the city.

In a statement made by the Ministry of Defense in Yemen however it was reported as follows: “Missile attack shook the Saudi capital and it was a successful operation”. In fact, a senior Yemeni air force official who spoke to CNN International suggested that the news of Saudi Arabia’s extinction was not factual. The attack is of great importance as it was the first missile attack on Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s heart.

Following the missile attack, some unusual activities were witnessed in Saudi Arabia. Minister of Economy and Planning Adil Fakih and Minister of National Guard Emir Mutab bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and Naval Commander Abdullah Sultan were dismissed. Minister Fakih was replaced by Mohammed Al-Twaijri in the Ministry of Economy and Planning, and Prince Khalid bin Ayyaf replaced National Guard Minister Mutab bin Abdullah. However, it was not clear whether this had to do with the missile attack.
