CEO says German DHL to set up trade routes from Turkey within scope of 2025 strategy

German DHL Express is focused on e-trade within the framework of its 2025 strategy. Accordingly Turkey is expected to become an important part of this strategy. CEO Pearson has expressed DHL plans to set up new trade routes through Turkey with their new logistics center which will go into operation in 2020.

DHL Express, one of the German giants of logistics, recently announced its 2025 strategy and new investments at an international press conference in Cologne. Focusing on e-commerce, digitalization and sustainability in line with its new strategy, the company also officially opened the new transfer center at Cologne Bonn Airport. At the meeting, DHL Express Global CEO John Pearson, stressed that Turkey was the fastest-growing market and among the most important and they would set up new trade routes with the new logistics center be opened at the airport in Istanbul in 2020.

John Pearson emphasized that as a company specializing in international exports and imports, their mission was to contribute to the economies of the countries in which they operate, as well as enable companies and consumers to benefit more from global trade and growing e-commerce. He emphasized the importance of Turkey and said they believed in the potential of the market. Pearson said, “Therefore we have also invested in one of our most important and highest amount of 135 million euros to Turkey”.

The CEO expressed their logistics investment in the Istanbul Airport would be completed at the end of 2020 and said,

“Our goal is always to grow in Turkey but also support Turkish companies to achieve their business goals. Turkey is the right location for our business and in a position to develop new trade routes. There are 60 countries and 120 destinations that can be reached from Istanbul on a three-hour flight. Our new logistics center is a very important step in realizing this potential.

DHL Express Turkey is growing fast. In the first half of 2019, the company’ growth was in double-digit with revenues mainly from export and e-commerce. Digitization is one of the most important parts of our 2025 strategy. Investments in this area are our priority all over the world, including Turkey. SMEs in Turkey are the backbone of the Turkish economy and e-commerce is growing at an alarming rate. DHL Express has many important customers and suppliers in Turkey. We want to support them all in a way that they can make more profit from global trade”.
