Culture and Tourism Minister Numan Kurtulmuş said, “We aim to exceed 30 million tourists this year. Our goal for 2023 is 50 million tourists and 50 billion dollars tourism revenue. We will move forward in this direction. This is an important target for us.” Kurtulmuş who gave information about his visit to China to attend the 22nd General Assembly of The United Nations World Tourism Organization said he had carried out quite productive negotiations.

Expressing that China was very important for Turkey, Kurtulmuş said that he had met with his counterparts in China to discuss 2018 that was named “Turkey Tourism Year” in this country.

Reminding that Chinese tourists liked historical attractions they did not know before, Kurtulmuş commented that areas such as Mardin, Amasya and Bursa should be promotoed as new destinations.

The minister said serious arrangements should be made for preparation of a substructure and added that it was not possible to achieve the target of 2 million tourists in a few years.  He also said “but it is very nice to know that such a goal is considered reachable by Chinese as well. We need to make good use of 2018”.

He said he would soon be traveling to South Korea and Japan and wanted to activate the market there as well.
