Energy and Natural Resources Minister says Turkey determined to find oil and natural gas

It is reported Turkey will have its second drill ship in December this year, to conduct research for oil and natural gas in its waters. Mr. Fatih DÖNMEZ, the Energy and Natural Resources Minister gave the good news at a meeting yesterday, adding Turkey would start drilling work in the Black Sea as well. The Minister also shared that they had made many investments in the recent period to make quality and economic energy products available for the consumer, in an uninterrupted manner.

He went on to say, “We have increased our daily natural gas supply capacity to 303 million cubic meters thanks to our new investments. This means we have a 20 percent reserve. We have succeeded by adding LNG terminals.”

Mr. DONMEZ said they had launched a serious move in oil and natural gas exploration activities and continued as follows: “Turkey bought its own drilling ship for the first time last year. During the past weeks said ship called FATIH (meaning conquerer) started drilling work off Antalya shore. Now another ship with same technical characteristics is coming in December and it will conduct drilling work twice a year, on average.”

The Minister also shared the following: “Our seismic studies in the Eastern Mediterranean have been continuing for 7-8 years. It will take engineering work to analyze and find out which area has more hydrocarbon reserves. We need to examine lots of details. Fatih drill ship has a 5-month work schedule and we will finish our drill work in the next 3-4 months. By that time, we will be about 5 thousand 500-6 thousand meters down from the sea level because of the depth of the sea there. We’re talking about 2 thousand 500 meters sea depth plus 3 thousand meters on land. This is a highly technological ship and there are 5-6 ships with similar features in the world. We have one of them. The ship also has the same features and we are designing the work program for that ship as well. We’ll probably continue drilling in the Black Sea.”

The Minister wowed they would continue to work until they find oil and/or natural gas.
