Germany is trying to increase the economic pressure on Turkey. It is reported that EU is preparing to cut hundreds of millions of euros in financial aid to Turkey following Berlin’s initiatives in this direction. Germany, which introduced economic measures to increase the pressure on Ankara after the tensions in Turkey-Germany relations, has also started taking related steps with the European Union. Accordingly, it is reported that the European Union has started considering cuts in financial aid to Turkey.

Based on information from diplomatic sources, the EU which plans to provide approximately 4 billion 450 million euros to Turkey between 2014-2020, is getting ready to implement cut downs in this amount at the evaluation meeting that will take place in the autumn, following its recent developments.

EU diplomatic sources say the interim evaluation meeting of the Instrument for Pre-Accession (shortly called “IPA II”) will be held in September or October and they expect to see a few hundred million euros cut in said financial aid to Turkey. The final figure they say is expected to be clear after the evaluation of the EU Commission.
