European Parliament accepts draft resolution calling on Turkey to withdraw from Afrin

The decision of the European Parliament (EP), titled “Situation in Syria”, was accepted by a majority of votes. The draft resolution which was adopted at The General Assembly of European Parliament said the “Olive Branch” campaign exercised by Turkey was a threat against civilians in Afrin and called on Turkey to stop it.

The call which mentioned there were concerns about the rising tension in Afrin, called on Turkey to withdraw its troops from Afrin and play a constructive role.

It was claimed in the report that “the reports of civilian casualties came from Afrin” and that the focus should be on “efforts to defeat groups defined as terror organization by the United Nations.

The resolution also mentioned the growing tension was worrying and prospects of a possible clash between the Turkish army and the Assad or Russian forces as well as the growing tension with the United States was referred to as a main concern.

On the other hand it was mentioned in the resolution that it was for the national interest of the country to withdraw its troops from Afrin and it would not be suitable with Turkey’s security interests to open new fronts in Syria.
