European Parliament asks Turkey to quit on Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant project

In a report accepted today proposing to suspend negotiations with Turkey, The European Parliament has demanded that Turkey quits on AKKUYU Nuclear Power Plant project. The EP has agreed to suspend negotiations with Turkey by 64 votes to 477 votes after working on a non-binding report in regards.

The Report said that “the AP calls for the Turkish government to stop its plans for the construction of the AKKUYU Nuclear Power Plant.” claiming that the region in which the plant was to be built, prone had the risk of suffering strong earthquakes.

It has been argued that “concerned danger” was not a threat to Turkey only but also to the whole Mediterranean region, at the same time.

The EP decision did not give any consideration to the Sinop Nuclear Power Plant to be conducted under the Japanese-French partnership.
