Foreigners bought USD 114 million in securities in week ending January 19th

While US dollar keeps fluctuating recently, the stock market seems to have started the new year quite strong. This is despite the political tension in the south of Turkey during a time when Turkish troops are conducting a very critical operation against pro-Kurdish militant groups in Afrin, Syria.

Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) announced weekly statistics for securities. Foreigners bought USD 114 million in securities in week ending January 19th and residents abroad bought USD 159.4 million in stock during same period.

Accordingly, while residents abroad bought 159.4 million of stock and USD 11.2 million of Private Sector Bonds they sold USD 45 million of Domestic Government Bonds.

The amount of stocks belonging to residents abroad which was USD 52 billion 1 million the previous week, rose to USD 52 billion 540.5 million in said week.
