Leaders release joint statement after four-way summit about Syria in Istanbul

The summit about Syria issue hosted by Turkey in Istanbul ended and all leaders attending released a joint statement regarding the decisions taken.

The statement said Parties have confirmed their strong commitment to the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic, its independence, unity and territorial integrity and the objectives and principles of the United Nations” and drew attention that no chemical weapons should be used and terrorist organizations in the region should be completely eliminated”.


The participants emphasized that a military solution could not be introduced for the ongoing dispute and the conflict could only be ended via a political process negotiated in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and also highlighted the importance of increasing coordination among all international initiatives aiming to contribute to finding a valid and sustainable solution to Syrian conflict within this framework.

The statement also read; “Leaders have confirmed their determination in the fight against terrorism in order to completely eliminate DAESH, NUSRA FRONT and AL QAEDA or all other individuals, groups, undertakings, organizations and other terrorist groups related to DAESH“.
