The German Prime Minister has called on the EU to display a common attitude on China and Russia and more solidarity with regard to migration. In an interview with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, she commented that the European Union would face the difficulty of adopting a harmonious foreign policy in the coming years.

Merkel, who is expected to win German parliamentary elections for the fourth term this month, said EU member states should urgently take a common stance against China and Russia.

Merkel also commented as follows: “The world has to see that the member states will not diverge from a European consensus on these important issues” and added that it was important to realize that the position of a country could sometimes deteriorate in favor of the bloc’s.

Merkel did not fail to slam Turkish President Erdogan either and said “At this moment, the experience we are having with German citizens in Turkish custody is serious and unacceptable. Turkey is moving away from Europe and its values.”
