Human rights violations in Turkey on agenda of Amnesty secretary-general

AMNESTY-INTERNATIONALSome believe that Turkey has recently been losing altitude in terms of the respect it has earned throughout decades on the international arena due to the foreign policies it has adopted in the last decade and the applications it put into practice all this time.

Needless to say the strategy this country has pursued in the Middle East in specific in recent years seems to be the biggest and most vital blunder that has caused its position to be seriously harmed. In fact this seems to be true to the extent that Turkey is unfortunately ignored by the USA despite some fancy statements delivered by US spokespeople now and then as to Turkey and US are close allies etc.  As for relations with the EU and Merkel (EU boss) it is very unlucky to observe that Turkey has a tendency to play the card of refugees if need be, which may not be regarded as an ethical alternative to contribute to an upgrade in Turkey’s reputation on the international arena. To be even worse for Turkey and complementary to above evaluation, the country has been receiving strong criticism from global institutions such as Amnesty International.

In fact EU is strongly criticized for tolerating Turkey to misuse the global refugee crisis. The statement in this regard has come from Amnesty International Secretary-General Salil Shetty. He slammed the Turkish government by saying “EU turned blind eye to Turkey’s human rights violations”.

Shetty who spoke to Doğan News Agency (DHA) on May 24 said “Europe particularly has double standards. Now that they want something from Turkey, they have turned a blind eye to human rights problems inside Turkey”.
