CHP (main opposition party) had started a protest march from Ankara to Maltepe prison in Istanbul after CHP Istanbul deputy Enis BERBEROGLU was arrested and put into jail by court in the case referred to as “MIT TIRS” (trucks), several days ago. CHP leader KEMAL KILICDAROGLU, who led the march, made comments on the agenda like he does every morning, before the walk starts.

After the walking group had spent the night at a public camp on the road, they left the Bolu mountain and started to walk towards Düzce, another town on the way to Istanbul. The group leaders took a decision to place 25 deputies 50 meters apart from each other in the cortege to keep better control of the participants against possible provocations (already practiced, by the way) by Ak Parti (ruling party) supporters to interrupt and even terminate the protest march.

The first stage of the walk lasted for 6 kilometers, leaving Düzce’s Fountain behind. While the police took security measures in the district, it was seen that citizens except for the protesters (many trying to provoke) supported hikers. CHP leader on the other hand responded to the protestors with applause.

After the break in the town of Kaynaşlı, the second stage of 5 kilometers of the march for the day started. In this part, CHP leader was accompanied by lawyers from CUMHURIYET newspaper and Düzce bar as well as prominent writer Ali Sirmen.

After another break, the cortege ran again to complete the third and final quarter of 4.4 km for the day. As Kılıçdaroğlu and the group approached Düzce security measures were increased.

Group of people gathered in front of the roadside facilities and protested the cortege with RABIA signs (originally introduced by Muslim Brothers during political disorder in Egypt several years ago and adopted by AKP later, claimed to correspond to mottos such as one nation, one flag, one country and one state) and posters of President Erdoğan. The security forces established a barricade between the AKP and the marchers and CHP leader responded to those who reacted to him with applause.

While the group shouted slogans such as “RIGHTS, LAW, JUSTICE“, KILIÇDAROGLU was accompanied by CHP Yalova Deputy Muharrem İnce in this part of the hike. Kılıçdaroğlu and the accompanying group finished the last session and gave a rest break at a facility.

According to reports Kılıçdaroğlu walked 15.4 kilometers on this specific day.
