Koç and Sabancı groups may compete for huge project to renew buses in Libya

KOÇ HOLDING and SABANCI HOLDING are the 2 largest conglomerates in Turkey. However these giant groups pay attention to their best, not to enter the same sectors (obviously to avoid tough competition with each other) despite some common areas they operate in.

Automotive is one of these sectors where both groups have companies that supply buses and minibuses to the local market, as well as abroad.

It seems that these 2 large groups of Turkey may have to compete abroad with their supplier companies OTOKAR (Koç Group) and TEMSA (Sabancı Group) for a huge project in Libya, nowadays.

The statement regarding this issue came was released by Abdulrauf BEITELMAL, the mayor of Tripoli who explained that the administration had started to work for the renewal of the buses and minibuses in the public transport system and added that they had started said project for Tripoli and Benghazi.

It is understood that two bus companies namely Koç Holding’s Otokar and Sabancı Group’s TEMSA are considered for the project though it is unclear how many vehicles will be purchased, yet.

In recent years, it has been possible to see buses and minibuses produced by Turkish companies operating in European cities, especially. If the tender in Libya, which has been on the agenda for a year now realizes, two Turkish companies will compete each other to win the huge project.
