KRG announces preparations for presidential and parliamentary elections have been suspended

The Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (IKBY) High Election and Referendum Commission has announced that preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held in two weeks have been suspended. KRG Higher Election and Referendum Commission has suspended preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections foreseen on 1 November

In the written statement made by the commission, following expression was used: “Preparations for the elections envisaged on 1 November have been temporarily suspended owing to the latest developments in the region, and the absence of any applications by candidates”.

It was also stated in the announcement that the KRG Parliament would decide when preparations would start. KRG President Massoud BARZANI had announced on 7 June that the presidential and parliamentary elections would be held on 1 November after a meeting with some political party representatives.
