Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yıldız has made a statement on Turkish import of Iranian natural gas.

Mr. Yildiz also warned companies currently conducting petroleum exploration activitiesin the Sothern Cyprus.

Yıldız said, “Within the framework of our existing contracts, neither we have been demanded nor we have thought to lower the volume of natural gas that Turkey imports from Iran which equals 18 to 20 percent of Turkey’s total natural gas need.

I believe that such an offer would not come since it does not cover our contracts.

Making such a demand would not only be related with Iran but also with Turkey. And, it is not even a matter of discussion.

If our dear friends are considering such a thing regarding the matters in petroleum exploration works in the Southern Cyprus, then we will have to reconsider their investments in Turkey.

I mean, naturally, we do not find it right making such an investment in the Southern Cyprus or conducting alike activities in the disputed areas that belong to all Cyprus and at the same time making investments or planning to invest in Turkey.

The choice will be theirs, the companies which are considering making investments”.
