New Trend Fethiye and Skywalk Cable Car to carry paragliders to Babadağ mountain

"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

In recent years, Fethiye has become a very prominent destination in the area of tourism in an incredible pace. Certainly, its natural beauties as well as diversity of alternative sports facilities it offers, has substantially contributed to this success not to forget good management practiced by the local authority.

Fethiye has recently started to use a very striking marketing slogan worded “NEW TREND FETHIYE”, as well. This slogan clearly suggests that people should now go to Fethiye. As a matter of fact, the slogan seems to have hit the target and looking at the figures so far this beautiful town is expected to break new records in tourism, in 2018.

On the other hand, it seems that paragliding which is one of Fethiye’s most famous alternative sports events will gear up because it won’t be long before those visiting Fethiye to paraglide are be able to use the cable car system called SKYWALK which is expected to be finished and put into operation very soon. Skywalk will upgrade Fethiye tourism and carry it to the top level among its competitors globally.

Skywalk Fethiye Cable Car Project will take visitors from one of the most magnificent beaches in the world and will carry them to the summit of Babadağ, again one of the most famous paragliding centers on earth. The journey from the bottom to the top is expected to take about 7 minutes only when the new cable car starts operating.

On the other hand Skywalk Fethiye Cable Car Project will offer the pleasure of enjoying both the turquoise blue of OLUDENIZ (Dead Sea) and the snowy summits of Babadağ during the 12 months of the year.

The project was initiated under the leadership of Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is expected to be completed in 2018.

The project will contribute to Fethiye and its tourism by offering below benefits; It will help to reduce the motor vehicle traffic to Babadağ where paragliding sport is intensely done. The number of visitors will be increased by adding Babadağ to tour routes and a new tourism product will be added to the region. It will be an important center of attraction of a wide tourism destination in the region including Kaş, Kalkan, Marmaris, and Göcek.

At present the site welcomes about 100 thousand paragliders, annually. Based on initial plans it is forecasted that the project will attract 1 million tourists annually with substantial contribution to the regional economy and not only Fethiye.

The cable car will start from Ovacık, and make its way to 1,700 m where the cafe will be and main paragliding launch pad. A separate ski lif will be built to take people right to the 1,900 m summit.
