PM to representatives of German companies: “We see you as companies of Turkey”

Conflict between Germany and Turkey regarding some political issues to include implementation of democracy in Turkey has been observed as a threat to the business ties between two countries, for a while. It is a well-known fact that Germany has an undeniable importance in the Turkish economy in terms of exports etc. European Union Minister Ömer Çelik and Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci also attended said meeting.

Within this scope, Prime Minister YILDIRIM met with representatives of German companies in an attempt to confirm the importance of economic ties between two countries and gave them the message “We do not see you as German companies, but we consider you to be companies that belong to our country.”

Prime Minister YILDIRIM who came together with representatives of 19 German companies operating in Turkey at Çankaya Köşkü (Prime Ministry) in Ankara, delivered a speech. The PM said “It is very important for us that you do not become a part of this tension or suffer any damage due to the developments experienced recently. I would like to express very clearly that we do not see you as German companies.” Yıldırım said, “It is not something we would not think of that these companies which have been in Turkey for at least half a century and won their places in the hearts of Turkish people should now be subject to unfair criticism and would suffer the consequences.
