President Erdoğan says US decision on Jerusalem contradicts international law

Referring to the U.S. President Donald Trump’s move on Jerusalem, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Dec. 9, the decision of the United States on Jerusalem contradicted international law and regional facts. Trump had reversed decades of U.S. policy on Dec. 6 and recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, despite warnings from around the world that the gesture further drives a wedge between Israel and the Palestinians.

At closing ceremony of “Turkish Exporters’ Assembly’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week” Erdoğan said; U.S. President Donald Trump wants to move on by saying “I did it and it’s OK”. Leading the world is not that easy. Being strong does not give you this right.

Turkey’s President added “The task of World leaders is to make peace, not to create conflicts. Israel is an occupying state, and their police are shooting at the youth and the kids… They are striking Gaza with their F-16s. They are striking Palestine in the meantime”.

Erdoğan also highlighted the importance of his country’s stability. “If Turkey gets weakened, Palestine, Jerusalem, Syria and Iraq would all lose hope.”
