PYD issues statement as Afrin Canton, calling on Syrian army to protect Afrin territory

PYD, the pro-Kurdish group in Afrin has issued a statement as Afrin Canton, calling on the Syrian army to protect Afrin territory. The statement read; “We are part of Syrian territory. We invite the Syrian state to protect its borders and counter this offensive against sovereignty.”

On the other hand, it was also mentioned in the statement that YPG had defended the territorial integrity of Syria against invaders for the last 6 years and it would continue to do so in case the Syrian army was involved.

Obviously, PYD is targeting to start a confrontation between Turkey and Syria to survive in the territory. The situation has started getting even more confusing if we come to think about questions such as “Who is Russia going to support in case of a clash between concerned countries, for instance? Turkey or Syria… Then again, which country is the USA going to support, Nato ally Turkey, or rival Assad?”

We should not be very surprised to witness very strange developments in the region in the coming days, because we know Turkey is very determined to finish the Kurdish terror threat once and for good this time. And it goes without saying YPG (or PYD etc) is certainly interlinked with PKK that has cost over 30 thousand innocent lives in Turkey in a couple of decades.
