Report: Turkey’s Foreign Trade Statistics January 2014

As reported by Turkish Statistics Institute Turkish exports increased by 8.6% and imports increased by 2.6% in January 2014.

According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Customs and Trade, in January 2014; exports were 12 473 Million Dollars with a 8.6% increase and imports were 19 292 Million Dollars with a 2.6% increase compared with January 2013.

Foreign trade deficit decreased by 6.8%

At the same month, foreign trade deficit decreased by 6.8% from 7 320 Million Dollars to 6 819 Million Dollars.

In January 2014, exports coverage imports was 64.7%, while it was 61.1% in January 2013.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports increased by 4.5%

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports increased by 4.5% and imports decreased by 1.2% compared with previous month. Calendar adjusted exports increased by 8.5% and imports increased by 2.7% compared with January 2013.

Exports to the European Union (EU-28) increased by 13.7%.

As compared with the same month of the previous year, exports to the EU-28 increased by 13.7% from 4 830 Million Dollars to 5 493 Million Dollars. The proportion of the EU countries was 44% in January 2014, while it was 42.1% in January 2013.

The main partner for exports was Germany.

In January 2014, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 259 Million Dollars and increased by 20%. For exports, Germany was followed by Iraq (1 019 Million Dollars), the United Kingdom (783 Million Dollars) and Italy (598 Million Dollars).

The top country for imports was Russia

In January 2014, the top country for Turkey’s imports was Russia (2 449 Million Dollars), records for imports range from China (2 078 Million Dollars), Germany (1 552 Million Dollars) and USA (1 037 Million Dollars).
