Russia says U.S. strategy in Syria is to divide this country rather than bring peace

Russian Foreign Ministry spokes person Mariya Zaharova stated that the strategy that the U.S. is following in Syria targets to divide the country. Zaharova told a weekly press conference that the US does not contribute to the solution in Syria. She added “The United States continues to keep Syria’s legitimately elected president out of power by its aims in Syria. “We are confident that this approach is contrary to international law and does not contribute to the target of finding of a political solution to the problem.”

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State had made a speech at Stanford University stressing that the US, EU and regional partners would not help in restoring the areas controlled by Syrian President Bashar Assad, and had called on other countries to exert economic pressure on Assad, as well.
