It is reported that Russia will start delivering S-400 defense systems to Turkey in 2019. Russia has also announced that it will start using local currencies in agreements with its foreign trade partners. Russia’s official arms exporter Rosoboronexport said in a statement it made that Russia would begin to deliver S400 defense systems to Turkey in 2019. Rosoboronexport also said it would start using local currencies for agreements with foreign trade partners. When said air defense systems are delivered Turkey will be the first NATO member to use S-400 systems.

The system has the capability of destroying both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles as well as ballistic missiles and a range of 400 km with a maximum altitude of 30 km. The system locks two missiles on each target, shooting 80 targets simultaneously.

The system has a capability of destroying mid-range ballistic missiles launched from a maximum of 3,500 miles. It can carry up to 145 kilograms of warheads.

USA had earlier expressed concerns that in case S400 systems were deployed in Turkey which is a NATO member, this would endanger the safety of US-made weapons to include F-35.
