The US-led anti-terrorism coalition confirms Syrian warplane shot down by coalition

The international anti-terrorist coalition, led by the US, confirmed that they had brought down a Syrian warplane. The coalition added that the plane had bombed US-backed opposition forces, earlier. The coalition also said Syrian forces were prevented from advancing towards the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) south of Tabqah after the aircraft was downed.

The statement issued by the coalition said:  “At 6:43 p.m., a Syrian regime SU-22 dropped bombs near SDF fighters south of Tabqah and in accordance with rules of engagement and in collective self-defense of Coalition partnered forces, was immediately shot down by a U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet.”

The coalition headquarters announced that they had contacted Russia after the attack to de-escalate the crisis. On the other hand Syrian Arab Army also announced that the US-led coalition had stopped its planes in the southern Raqa countryside. The ministry said, “Our plane was downed near Raqqa at noon today, while fulfilling its mission against Daesh.”
