Transport Minister says Istanbul Airport metro connection to be opened at the end of 2020

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Cahit Turhan who made a presentation at the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission said that the metro connection of Istanbul Airport woud be opened at the end of 2020.

Cahit Turhan, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, made a presentation to the Parliamentary Plan and Budget Commission where the budget for 2020 was discussed. He said “We will open Gayrettepe/Airport connection at the end of 2020 and Halkalı/Airport connection in 2022. This way we will be able to reach the airport from both sides by metro in less than an half an hour”.

Turhan noted that due to the investments and arrangements made for aviation in Turkey, the country had displayed a growth performance above the world average. He added this growth reflected in the indications such as increased numbers in total number of passengers, aircraft, cargo capacity, sector turnover and employment.

Indeed total number of passengers increased by six fold whereas cargo capacity increase by seven fold and sector turnover increased by 12 fold.  On the other hand employment increased by 3 times.

Turhan said, “The Hot Air Balloon, which was designed and manufactured by a local company for the first time, successfully carried out its test flight on October 10”.
