Troy, an epic historical war drama film starring Brad Pitt and its relation to Turkey

Troy is a 2004 epic historical war drama film directed by Wolfgang Petersen and written by David Benioff. The film was produced by units in Malta, Mexico and Britain’s Shepperton Studios and features an ensemble cast led by prominent start such as Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Orlando Bloom.

The story is taken from great historian Homer’s epic and no doubt has proved to be one of the most entertaining historical war films ever.

The film is about the assault on Troy by the united Greek forces at the time and fall of the city. Throughout the film we meet characters such as Achilles, Hector, Paris and Helen as Queen of Sparta.

The story takes place in 1250 B.C. during the Bronze Age. After Paris, the young prince of the city Troy takes beautiful Helen, the Queen of Sparta from her husband King Menelaus of Sparta and brings her back to Troy with him, the King wows to take revenge. He persuades his powerful brother King Agamemnon to help him with his fight and a very powerful Greek army with 1000 ships and 50,000 soldiers arrive in Canakkale region and war starts to capture Troy city.

Trojans have never been defeated before and the war is a tough one at the end of which great warrior Achilles kills Hector, the great prince of Troy and the film proceed towards the end with quite a moving scenario.

The film is very successful showing some tough battle struggles which keeps attention alive all the time.

When TROY was shown in theatres all around the world it certainly meant a great tourism propaganda for Turkey as well, as the ancient city TROY is located in Turkish soil, south of Çanakkale. The film surely drew much attention to the spot where historical ruins can be visited. The impact of the film was worth tens of millions of dollars in terms of the advertising it did for Turkey and the promotion thus enjoyed.
