Turkey attracts 12.3 billion dollars of international direct investment in 2016

It was reported that Turkey, despite the adversities experienced in 2016, had attracted 12.3 billion dollars of international direct investment.

Mr. Arda ERMUT, President of the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey and the World Investment Agencies Association (WAIPA) said despite the events in 2016, Turkey had attracted 12.3 billion dollars of international direct investment. He went on to say that 55 percent increase had been observed in direct investments which substantially contributed to Turkey’s economic development, employment and industry.

The president also emphasized that Turkey was an important investment country for international direct investors and added that the reforms implemented for this purpose made Turkey more attractive and increased the confidence of international investors in Turkey.

According to data issued by UNCTAD last year, FDI in the whole world was $ 1.75 trillion, down 2 percent from the previous year.

To parallel the statements made by the president, it was mentioned in said report that Turkey had been the most active country by signing 7 international investment agreements in the area of mutual encouragement and protection of investments. In this context, Turkey followed three international investment agreements with Canada, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, while Iran and Nigeria have signed three international investment agreements.
