Turkey determined to produce combat aircraft engines to strengthen its defense industry

Located in a part of the world involved in major conflicts, Turkey continues to take important steps towards improving its defense industry. The administration has recently taken an important step to develop a fighter aircraft engine. In this context, the Defense Industry officials have made a program and signed the necessary contracts with the relevant establishments. Thus the process of developing an original turbofan jet fighter aircraft engine has been started. The ultimate goal on the other hand is to be able to master all the technological elements related to the subject.

The contract was signed between the Defense Industry Presidency (SSB) and TR Motor Company – recently established for this purpose. Speaking at the signing ceremony the authorities said that various projects were carried out in order to develop original engines on various platforms and that an important milestone in the 5th Generation War Plane Development Project was realized.

Following are among the targets of Turkey’s administration: First, the engine in question should be subject to no restrictions from any other countries. The main target however is to fully master all technological elements and to develop them nationally. Officials reminded that there were many issues to be taken into account in this process and that the initiative was not expected to be completed in a very short time. It is said that the period in question is not less than 10 years.

Just to remind, TUSAS (Turkish Aerospace Industries) of Turkey has been assigned as the leading party in the development and production of the domestic and national aircraft project.
