Turkey: Foreign Trade Statistics, October 2013

FOREIGN TRADE REPORT TURKEYForeign Trade Statistics figures of Turkey for October 2013 were published by TUIK as follows:

Exports decreased by 8.2% and imports increased by 3.7%

According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Customs and Trade, in October 2013; exports were 12 105 Million Dollars with a 8.2% decrease and imports were 19 480 Million Dollars with a 3.7% increase compared with October 2012.

Foreign trade deficit increased by 31.8%

In the same month, foreign trade deficit increased by 31.8% from 5 596 Million Dollars to 7 375 Million Dollars.

In October 2013, exports coverage imports was 62.1% while it was 70.2% in October 2012.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports decreased by 3.9%

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports decreased by 3.9% and imports increased by 5.8% compared with previous month. Calendar adjusted exports decreased by 4.7% and imports increased by 11.7% compared with October 2012.

Exports to the European Union (EU-28) increased by 0.2%

Due to the fact that Croatia has been an EU member state since July 2013, data related to the EU country group has been prepared including 28 member states. This is applied to the data related to 2013 and previous years to make comparison.

As compared with the same month of the previous year, exports to the EU-28 increased by 0.2% from 5 296 Million Dollars to 5 305 Million Dollars. The proportion of the EU countries was 43.8% in October 2013 while it was 40.1% in October 2012.

The main partner for exports was Germany

In October 2013, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 156 Million Dollars and increased by 4.8%. For exports, Germany was followed by Iraq (1 053 Million Dollars), the United Kingdom (805 Million Dollars) and Russia (615 Million Dollars).

The top country for imports was China

For October 2013, the top country for Turkey’s imports was China (1 963 Million Dollars), records for imports range from Germany (1 826 Million Dollars), Russia (1 812 Million Dollars) and Italy (1 132 Million Dollars).

Vehicles other than railway are forfront in exports according to chapters

For October 2013, “vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, parts thereof” has the highest value exported at 1 370 Million Dollars and then, “boilers, machineries and mechanical appliances, parts thereof” (1 052 Million Dollars), “electrical machineries and equipments, parts there of” (884 Million Dollars) and “iron and steel” (726 Million Dollars).

Mineral fuels and oils are forfront in imports according to chapters

At the same period, the top categories for imports were “mineral fuels and oils” (4 487 Million Dollars) and then “boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances” (2 386 Million Dollars), “electrical machineries and equipments, parts there of” (1 516 Million Dollars), “iron and steel” (1 475 Million Dollars), and “vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, parts thereof” (1 415 Million Dollars).
