Turkey, Iran and Russia release joint statement about Syria, in Sochi

President Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Hasan Ruhani and Russian President Vladimir Putin have summoned a joint statement following the summit meeting in Sochi. Topics such as steps to be taken to ensure political settlement in the summit in Syria, measures to be taken to reduce violence, fight against terrorist organizations and delivery of humanitarian aid to the region were discussed at the summit.

According to reports the statement said “Heads of state call for the participation of the representatives of the Syrian Arab Republic government and the opposition which is committed to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, territorial integrity and indivisible character”.

The full statement read;

“Heads of state have confirmed their strong commitments to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and emphasized that no political initiative aimed at reducing the tension, establishing regions and resolving the Syrian conflict in question, could cause harm to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The heads of state have called on the representatives of the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the opposition committed to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, territorial integrity and non-destructive character to participate in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress to be held in Sochi in the near future, in a constructive manner.”

Heads of State have agreed to assist in finding a political solution for the conflict by means of collective, free, fair and transparent elections to be carried out under the proper supervision of the UN which all Syrians eligible to participate will vote, in order to result in a constitution which will have support of the Syrian people in restoring the unity of their country.”
