Turkey meets over 70 percent of world’s fig demand
It is reported that Turkey is now the biggest gif producer in the world and meets about 70 percent of the global demand.
It has also been reported however that fig farmers are not content with sales prices and price for dried fig has been shaped below anticipations.
Fig grows in an environment where north-east and the southwest winds are supposed to blend in a suitable manner which is difficult to find. Turkey has this opportunity and this is exactly one of the reasons why it has become the biggest producer in the world.
In Tire town (Izmir) it is possible to find the top quality harvest which is reported to correspond to approximately 10 percent of the total harvest.
The price for dried fig, despite a drought which lowered the harvest this year, has been realized below.
