Turkey’s crude steel production grows in double digits in first nine months

Turkey’s crude steel production in the first nine months of the year rose by 13.5 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 27.7 million tons. In the same period, imports decreased to 11.9 million tons corresponding to 14.6 percent. According to a statement made by the Turkish Steel Manufacturers Association, global crude steel production in January-September reached about 1.3 billion tons with an increase of 5.6 percent over the same period last year.

In the said period, Turkey’s crude steel production increased by 13.5 percent to 27.7 million tons. While Turkey maintained the position of the 8th biggest steel producing country in the world in this period, it was also recorded as the country that increased its production fastest. China, which ranked first in global crude steel production, increased its production by 6.3 percent in 9 months to 638.7 million tons.

Turkey’s “finished steel consumption” in the January-September period increased by 1.6 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 26.5 million tons.

Exports on the other hand approached US$ 10 billion. When foreign trade data is evaluated, exports increased by 8.3 percent in quantity compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 9.5 billion dollars in 9 months period, up by 13.8 million tons and 21.8 percent in value terms.
