Turkey’s defense industry exports grow by 3.7 percent in 2017

Defense industry exports of Turkey grew by3.7 percent in 2017 to reach $ 1.7 billion with TAI winning the champion title. According to data provided by the Defense and Aviation Industry Exporters’ Association (SSI), exports of the sector increased by 3.7 percent compared to the previous year reaching USD 1 billion 739 million from USD 1 billion 677 million.

In 2017, the most exported product was aircraft and helicopter parts. Exports of the mentioned products increased by 8.1 percent compared to the previous year, reaching USD 524.4 million.

Exports of turbojets for other vehicles and parts for turboprops increased by 7 percent to USD 276.9 million dollars while exports of turbojets for civil aircraft increased by 201.6 percent to USD 192.2 million.

On the other hand exports of tanks and other armored combat vehicles increased by 7 percent to USD 111.8 million. The share of aircraft and helicopter components in exports were 30 percent while turbojets and accessories and parts for turbojet had 16 percent share.

TAI was the sector’s largest exporter in 2017 followed by TUSAS Engine (TEI) and Pratt & Whitney THY Technique, ASELSAN and Alp Aviation.
