Mr. Gürcan KARAKAS, CEO of TOGG (Turkey’s Automobile Enterprise Group) has made a statement saying the domestic car project is forecasted to make a contribution of euros 50 billion to GDP in 15 years. On the other hand same project is expected to reduce the current account deficit by euros 7 billion. Mr. KARAKAS also noted that thanks to the project 4 thousand direct and 20 thousand indirect new jobs would be provided.

When we ask how much difference there is between us, we have to determine who and what we compare ourselves with. If we’re talking about classic car manufacturers, the race is just beginning with what we want to do in our targeted segment. We do not compare ourselves with a manufacturer that has been producing internal combustion engines for 150 years. We compare ourselves with OEMs who believe that this will be solved by the mobility ecosystem. Comparing to the classic car manufacturers, there is not much difference. Compared to new beginners, yes, some have been 10 years, but the distance is not a distance that we cannot cover.

Expressing they look at the matter from a long-term and international perspective, KARAKAS said that they were examining about 20 successful and unsuccessful examples in the world while doing the technical and commercial feasibility of the local car. He said “We believe we can do it very comfortably as Turkey has truly a good infrastructure”.

Sharing 8 criteria, Karakaş stated that there were markets and opportunities in global competition, and that the domestic car would have a portfolio that would help to compete globally.

He said “We are talking about global competition and becoming a global brand. Do we have a portfolio? We do… We will with a SUV because that is what the market requires. Right after that 4-5 other models will follow to be launched in the market. So we have a portfolio.

Can we create a start-up ecosystem that could compete globally? We think we can because we are able to compete now. If we can convert this in a timely manner, we can also ensure its sustainability. We would like intellectual property rights to belong to Turkey. We can do it”.
