Turkey’s energy companies focus on investments in solar plants

Solar energy has been drawing more attention from Turkish companies operating in the energy sector. Concerned investments are coming one after the other in the sector. A most recent investment of 3 solar plants was finalized by AKFEN, one of the leading companies in the sector.

Reportedly, 3 solar plants belonging to Akfen Renewable Energy Inc. started production in Konya, with a total capacity of 30 megawatts. The company issued a statement saying it aimed to reach a capacity of 1000 megawatts in local and renewable energy, by 2020.

In the statement it was reminded that two 20 megawatt capacity solar plants owned by the company had been put into operation in Van last week adding that 3 licensed solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 30 megawatts had also started production in Konya. The company also shared that the investment which had cost US$ 65 million would provide energy for 120 thousand people.

Based on the statement, the total power of the company with new power plants reached 303 megawatts and an annual production capacity of approximately 1 GWh (Gigawatt-Hour.)

Note: GWh (Gigawatt hour) is a unit of energy representing one billion watt hours and is equivalent to one million kilowatt hours.
