President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is visiting Washington, the country’s capital, at the invitation of US counterpart Donald Trump. The talks between Erdogan and Trump lasted for an hour and 15 minutes after which the negotiations between the delegations started.

Following Turkey’s Peace Fountain Operations in northern Syria the bilateral relations between 2 countries had worsened. This visit by Erdogan is meant to normalize said relations.

Before the meeting, Trump said, “It is a great honor to welcome you here. We met with the Kurds who are satisfied. The ceasefire is in place. You know, we withdrew our troops within a certain time. I think we should stop worrying about the borders of other people, now. We need to think about our own borders. I thank the President for what he has done”.

Trump went on to say, “We are very good friends with the President. We’ve been friends for a long time. We understand each other very well. We understand where we come from and we understand our problems very well. A lot of people from Turkey lost their lives in the region we are talking about. We have to do something about it. We will also discuss S400 and F-35 issues. We aim to increase the trade volume between the two countries to US$ 100 billion”.

On the other hand, in his welcoming speech President Erdoğan said “We will explain everything at the press conference”.
