Turkey’s TUIK announces unemployment figures for November 2018

Turkey’s administration has received bad news regarding unemployment in the country. Despite the efforts and optimistic statements made by the government the figures announced by TUIK were not pleasing for the country.

Turkey’s Statistical Institute (TUIK) has announced unemployment figures for November 2018. Based on data shared by TUIK, unemployment in Turkey rose to 12.3 percent in the period covering October, November and December from 11.6 percent in October.

Based on data shared by TUIK again, the number of unemployed people rose to 3 million 981 thousand persons in the period of November with an increase of 706 thousand people.

During the same period, non-agricultural unemployment rate was estimated as 14.3 percent with an increase of 2.1 percentage points. In the young population (15-24 years), the unemployment rate increased by 4.3 percentage points to 23.6 percent, while in the 15-64 age group, this rate increased by 2.1 percentage points to 12.6 percent.
