Turkey’s prime minister said on Thursday that his visit to Qatar would contribute to bilateral relations with that country.

Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he believed his visit to Qatar would also contribute to political change and transformation process in the region.

“Turkey and Qatar are exerting concerted efforts to contribute to regional and global peace, security and stability in parallel to improvement of their bilateral relations,” Erdogan told reporters before flying to Qatar.

Erdogan said he would attend the 13th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development on April 21, which was of peculiar importance since it was the first time the conference was taking place in a Middle Eastern country.

“The historic transformation process in our region also makes the conference more important,” Erdogan also said.

Premier Erdogan will meet Qatari Amir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir Al Thani in Doha.

Erdogan is expected to focus on bilateral relations and cooperation, as well as regional and international developments during his talks with the Qatari executives.
