Turkish Stream Gas Project – BusinessTurkeyToday.com

Turkish Streamgas pipeline known as one of the giant infrastructure investment projects of our times will have an annual capacity to meet the energy needs of 15 million homes. It is anticipated that the first line of the project consisting of two separate lines will reach the Turkish coast by May 2018 with the target to supply the first gas by the end of 2019.

It is reported that the project has a total capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters to be supplied via two lines. A portion of 15.75 billion cubic meters will be made available for consumption in Turkey while the remaining capacity will be forwarded to Europe. The reports say a total of 700 kilometers on the two lines of the project are already completed and the total length will be 860 kilometers.

Currently the construction of the project is continuing with the piping ship named “Pioneering Spirit” constructing an average of 4 kilometers per day. The Turkish Stream natural gas pipeline project has an annual capacity to meet the energy needs of 15 million residences and the plan is to reach the Turkish coast in May 2008 and deliver the first gas to Turkey by end 2019.

Experts say the project will contribute to the energy security of Turkey and Europe. Just like “Blue Stream” was used as an alternative when Turkey experienced shortages and limitations from other sources in the past, Turkish Stream will contribute in terms of securing energy supply for said regions.

On the other hand, while gas production in Europe drops, an increase in consumption is observed. Southeastern Europe as well as the developing markets in Balkans is foreseen to benefit from this project. The increase in demand for gas from countries such as such as Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia also verifies this observation showing how valuable said project is.
