Transport Minister Ahmet ARSLAN provided information regarding the most recent progress about the new Istanbul airport, on a television program he participated in. He said that Atatürk Airport would be re-organized as an area to breathe for Istanbul after the 3rd airport comes into service and went on to say “opening the area for shopping centers and housing is not in question, in any way”. The Minister said Atatürk Airport terminals would serve as a fair area.

Regarding Atatürk Airport the minister also explained following:

“We do not have the possibility of using two airports at the same time as they both use the same air corridor. We want to make sure that this area is not opened to construction as we believe it has to be arranged as an area to breathe in for inhabitants of Istanbul. There are many terminals here currently, used for small aircraft and we would like these spots to serve as fair areas.  The instructions of the President of the Republic of Turkey and the instructions of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey are in this direction.
