Turks pay 60 billion Turkish Liras using debit cards and credit cards, in October 2017

According to data provided by BKM (Interbank Card Center) a total of 59.5 billion TL was paid with bank cards and credit cards in Turkey in October. The data also shows that as of the end of October, 61.5 million credit cards and 128 million bank cards are used in Turkey. Compared to the same period last year the number of credit cards have increased by 6 percent, while the number of bank cards have increased by 12 percent.

A total payment amount of TL 59.5 billion was realized during October 2017. While TL 52.9 billion of this amount was made with credit cards, 6.6 billion TL was paid with debit cards. Accordingly, the growth rate of credit card payments was 16 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Payments by bank cards increased by 45 percent and its share in total card payments exceeded 11 percent.

On the other hand based on same data it is understood that a total amount of TL 81 billion was realized by card payments on the internet during January-October period of this year.

Accordingly, internet payment card payments increased by 45 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The share of internet payments in total card payments was 14 percent in the first 10 months of 2017, while it was 11 percent in the same period of last year.
