Unemployment in Turkey becomes 10.2 percent in June

The unemployment rate was 10.2 percent in June. Thus, the unemployment rate did not change compared to the previous month of May and the same period of last year. The number of unemployed people aged 15 years and over has increased by 124 thousand to 3 million 251 thousand in the period of June 2017, compared to the same period of the previous year.

In June, the non-agricultural unemployment rate remained the same and was estimated at 12.2 percent. The unemployment rate in the young population (15-24 years) was 20.6 percent with an increase of 1.2 points, while this rate did not change in the 15-64 age group and was realized as 10.4 percent.

The number of employed persons on the other hand increased by 1 million 52 thousand persons in June 2017, compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 28 million 703 thousand. Thus employment rate became 48 percent with a 0.9 point increase.

In this period, the number of people working in agriculture increased by 180 thousand, and the number of people working in non-agricultural sectors increased by 872 thousand. 20.1 percent of the employed persons were in agriculture, 18.8 percent in industry, 7.6 percent in construction and 53.6 percent in services sector.
