Important developments were observed on the 7th day of Spring Peace operation carried out by Turkey in Syria. It was reported that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would accept US Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday, 17 October. This piece of news was confirmed on social media by the presidential head of communication Fahrettin Altun.

Altun noted that Erdogan would accept the US delegation with the expression “US Vice President Mike Pence and the accompanying delegation is planned to be accepted tomorrow.”

On the other hand, the USA has announced some of the sanctions to be applied to Turkey in connection with the Turkish operation being conducted in Syria currently. Moreover the USA brought the issue of Halkbank, one of the major banks in Turkey to the agenda again giving the signal additional steps could be taken in this regard. As known, a case against Halk Bank was previously held in the USA and a Halkbank manager was sentenced to prison.

Amid these developments President Trump decided to send Vice President Pence to Turkey to pursue a ceasefire and negotiated settlement of concerned conflict. However based on Turkey’s President latest statements it seems that Turkey will not settle for anything less than immediate removal of YPG elements in designated security zone north of Syria.

To recap, looking at the latest picture it seems that Russia and Syria will now be more actively involved in this multi-scenario, and the next few days will have significant developments.
