US President Donald Trump said that he considered several people for the US Federal Reserve (Fed) presidency, adding that current Fed Chairman Janet Yellen and Chief Economy Advisor Gary Cohn were among those names. Trump noted in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he could appoint Fed Chair Yellen for the second presidential term. Trump who said “I like the way Yellen handles… She has performed very well” also expressed his satisfaction with Yellen’s low interest policy.

In reply to the question “who would replace Yellen after the first presidential term of Yellen ends in February 2018″ Trump said Yellen was definitely one of the candidates.

However, Trump stated that he had 2-3 more names on the candidate list, confirming that Gary Cohn, the White House National Economic Council Director was one of them.

Trump said “I know Gary for a long time, but I’ve started to respect him highly working with him. Gary is definitely on the list”.

Trump, who did not disclose other names on the candidate list for Fed’s presidency, added that it was too early to decide.

Before he was elected Trump had said he would probably re-nominate Yellen again after completion of her four-year term, on February 3, 2018.
