A new regulation proposes an annual contribution fee of 750 TL to be deducted from credit cards with a limit exceeding 100,000 TL to support the defense industry. Many citizens, in an attempt to avoid this deduction, are considering lowering their credit card limits. However, economic columnist Nazlı Sarp, in a statement on Sözcü TV, suggested that a circular might be issued, preventing banks from accepting requests to reduce credit card limits.
The imposition of an annual fee on credit cards with a limit exceeding 100,000 TL, to support the defense industry, has led many to consider lowering their limits. Nazlı Sarp warned that a general directive may soon prevent banks from complying with such requests.
A law proposal introduced by the AKP aims to generate a total annual revenue increase of 70-80 billion TL, to be transferred to the Defense Industry Support Fund. The proposal, consisting of 12 articles including provisions on implementation, was submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) yesterday.
The most notable regulation in this proposal is the imposition of an annual 750 TL fee on credit cards with limits over 100,000 TL.
They Aim to Collect 46.5 Billion TL from Credit Cards
In her statement on Sözcü TV, Nazlı Sarp mentioned that there are a total of 62 million credit cards with a limit of 100,000 TL or more. “When you calculate it, this amounts to a total deduction of approximately 46.5 billion TL,” Sarp stated.
