According to a statement from the Meteorology General Directorate (MGM), the Marmara region in Turkey is set to experience a significant temperature increase due to a heatwave originating from Algeria. The Istanbul Regional Forecast and Early Warning Center has warned residents to take precautions as temperatures are expected to rise 8 to 12 degrees above seasonal norms.
Current meteorological assessments indicate that temperatures in the Marmara region are already above average. Starting tomorrow, the heat is predicted to intensify further. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will see temperatures soaring well above seasonal norms by 8 to 12 degrees.
However, the expected rainfall over the weekend is anticipated to bring some relief, with temperatures dropping back to around seasonal averages.
Forecasted high temperatures for specific cities in the coming days are as follows:
– Istanbul: 32-34°C
– Edirne: 34-42°C
– Kocaeli: 34-39°C
– Sakarya: 34-39°C
The soaring temperatures pose health risks, especially to vulnerable populations such as those with chronic illnesses, the elderly, and children. The meteorology department has issued a warning for residents to avoid being outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, specifically between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
